{Sweet Treats} Korean Red Bean "Fish Ice Cream"

One of my favorite things in the world is "fish ice cream". No, this isn't some Iron Chef experiment. It's simply a Korean ice cream bar shaped like a fish!

A thin wafer (shaped like a fish!) encapsulates delicious vanilla ice cream and a layer of sweet red bean jam. It costs about P50 (P38 in Waltermart Pasong Tamo!) and I must say, each bite is pure heaven.

{Nibble Treats} Beef Enoki Rolls

We used to order this dish in Teriyaki Boy. This and Gyu Asupara Maki, which uses asparagus spears instead.

This is a great appetizer, but with a cup of rice, it can serve as an adequate viand for dinner, too!

To make Beef Enoki Rolls, marinate thin slices of beef in a mixture of lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, salt, and  black and cayenne pepper.

Cut the bottom part of the enoki mushrooms and rinse. Be careful not to pull the mushrooms too much apart.

Wrap a bundle of enoki with the beef. You can use toothpicks to secure the rolls.

Melt butter in a pan then add the beef and mushroom rolls. Turn over gently until beef is cooked. This will only take a few seconds!

{Sweet Treats} Fried Oreos

This is all The Pickiest Eater's fault!

There I was minding my own business when he suddenly posts about their trip to the markets and their food finds. He planted the seed in my head, and it grew and grew until I couldn't take it anymore. So I made myself a batch of Fried Oreos. Ack!

{Sweet Treats} Happy Lemon

Lately, this has been my favorite drink. It's not exactly a milk tea, but it's from a milk tea shop which for some reason is trendy again.

I find Green Tea with Rock Salt and Cheese, the perfect combination of sweet, salty, and, uhhhm, floral tea notes.

I've tried the Chocolate version. I've tried the Milk Tea with Pearls and Puff Cream too. But this will always be my favorite Happy Lemon drink.

{On our table} Herb Pork Chops

This is one of Mike's favorite dishes. He orders pork chops in Cyma and Cibo, but I'm sure his favorite is the version I make at home ;p

This recipe is quite fool proof actually. You just need to marinate it then fry in the pan for a few minutes on each side. This time, I made zucchini and red rice to go with it.

{Salad Day} Radish and Arugula

Thinly sliced radish marinated in lemon juice and red wine vinegar. Arugula. Feta. Salami Milano. Chopped tomatoes. Splashed with olive oil, red wine vinegar and sprinkled with black pepper.

{On our table} Beef Tongue Sandwich

I love lengua! I was never shocked by it. I never said a "Yuck! Tongue!" because frankly, it is just soooooo delish! However, my appreciation of lengua has been limited to dishes like tomatoey Lengua Estofada and Lengua in Mushroom sauce.

When I saw a pack of thinkly sliced Beef Tongue at New Hatchin Grocery, I knew it would be a great time to experiment with one of my favorite pieces of... cow. Haha!

{Breakfast Bites} Egg in a hole + English Bangers

I've always wanted to make Eggs in a Hole. They look fun! Decided to put a little twist to it.

{Nibble Treats} Sophie's Mom Oreo Cheesecake Cookie

This cookie has been haunting me since last week.

Was walking around the neighborhood when I decided to drop by Sophie's Mom. Grabbed some bread, a couple of Frozen Brazo mochi ice cream balls, and a cookie. And that's when the problem started.

One bite and I was doomed. The outside is coated with crushed Oreos. The inside is a whole different story! Their Facebook page describes them as soft, moist cheesecake cookies with chocolate chips. Soft and moist alright. It tastes like that damn Oreo cream but thicker, yummier, more sinful! Uuuuugh! It's so damn good. I seriously felt bad after eating it. So much for my walking exercise! But it was just so damn good. I haven't felt this way for a cookie for a long time! (The last time was with Mom and Tina's Toffee Brickle cookies)

And like a crackhead on withdrawal, I've been trying to muster all my might not to run down the block to Sophie's Mom. Because I know I wouldn't be able to resist eating at least 3. Not kidding.

{Out and About} Achiote, Powerplant

We wanted to eat out for a change and we took a long time trying to decide where to go. The choices were Mexican, burgers, beer and pub food, or pizza.

But then this scene from Clueless popped into my head.
Lucy: I NOT A MEXICAN.
Cher: Great, what was that all about?
Josh: Lucy's from El Salvador.
Cher: So?
Josh: So, it's an entirely different country.

So off to Achiote we went.

{Seafood Saturday} Baked Salmon

At a recent get-together with my college girlfriends, our host, Qae, served Conti's famous Baked Salmon. Yum!

I was craving for some more, so when I saw a fresh piece of Salmon fillet at Rustan's, I knew we just had to have salmon for dinner.

{Nibble Treats} Peppery Tartine

Radish, salami milano, arugula, and brie on top of Lartizan Sourdough Rye bread.

I was meaning to top the bread off with just raw ingredients. The salami and cheese had to act as a buffer for now. They tamed the peppery kick of the raw arugula and spicy radish slices.

{Breakfast Bites} Veggie Omelette

{Nibble Treats} Asparagus, Feta, and Salami

A light snack to tide me over til dinner.

Asparagus, quickly blanched. Feta with herb olive oil. Salami Felino purchased at Santi's.

{On our table} Veggie Pasta

Our friend, Ana, brought this yummy pasta dish to a potluck get-together at our friend's place. We didn't get to see her because she had another party to go to, but her presence was definitely felt because of her yummy veggie pasta.

I tried to make my own version!

{On our table} Corn, Beef and Beans

I wanted to make use of the french beans I was able to buy at Santi's. I decided to make a version of a Corn and Beef dish that our yaya makes.

The end result was a light beef and vegetable dish of yummy, crunchy flavors and textures!

It's more fun in the Philippines

Because everyone has a nanay/ tatay/ lolo/ lola/ tito/ tita/ amiga/ yaya who makes yummy food. Can I get a hell yeah? HELL YEAH!

In the Philippines, fresh seafood can be had whenever you want.

You can cook it up yourself, go to a restaurant or go to Dampa where you can pick out the seafood yourself and have it cooked in a flash.

You can feast on Fresh Prawns and Steamed Crabs and enjoy them all the more by eating with your hands.

A hefty bowl of soup can warm you up even during the coldest of days.
Have you tried our Bulalo? The bone marrow part is the best!
Without the marrow, well then it just becomes Nilagang Baka.
Arrozcaldo is great when you're sick or drunk.
You can always find comfort in a bowl of Sinigang.

Because we burn, batter and torture eggplants before making them into a yummy dish.

We have silogs for breakfast.
And we continue to concoct whatever silogs that catch our fancy.

We love our saucy dishes. (Take Callos, Pochero for example)
Because sauce lets the whole family enjoy bigger, longer meals. More sauce. More rice. More fun.

Every Filipino family makes "the best Adobo!"
Or so we all claim!

Don't you think it's fun?

{On our table} Shrimp and Sausage Stew

For Christmas, my best friend's family gifted Mike and I with a humongous bag of sausages! Kilos and kilos worth of yummy Kielbasa.

We could just enjoy it every morning for breakfast, but that would eventually be such a bore. Thinking of other ways to enjoy these delicious links, Shrimp and Sausage Stew was one of the dishes that immediately came to mind.

{On our table} Lamb Chops + Potato Asparagus Soup + Bailey's Cake

Happy New Year!

2011 was quite a roller coaster ride. The ups and downs made me quite a worrywart, but all in all, it was a good year. For sure, 2012 to be an even better one.

I always enjoy ringing in the New Year because it means that Mike and I will get to celebrate our anniversary soon (uy, mushy!). This year is our 14th year together. Yes, that's not a typo, folks!

Instead of dining out, I decided to prepare a modest meal for us to enjoy at home.

I wanted to prepare lamb, Mike's favorite. Since I was lucky enough to find some at the grocery, I made Lemon Garlic Rosemary Lamb Chops.

For the side salad, I simply blanched some asparagus and french beans fresh from Santi's. I sprinkled it with some ground black pepper, added cubes of feta cheese and drizzled it with a bit of herb olive oil the cheese had been soaking in.

Of course, I didn't forget the wedge of lemon and mint jelly! And since we're trying to eat even more healthier now, I also added red rice on to our plates.

I also whipped up a Potato and Asparagus soup. A rich, hearty soup that was a perfect start to our meal!

For dessert, I made Bailey's chocolate cake with gooey, messy chocolate ganache. Sadly, I didn't get to enjoy this since I was already so full!

I have containers of it in the ref, sitting and marinating in chocolate goodness until I'm ready to attack it. Yum!

Cheers! Here's to a happy, yummy 2012!
